Landscape Construction in Pasadena & the San Gabriel Valley
Grading, drainage, borders and planting. The unglamorous half that decides whether the pretty half lasts.
The short answer
Most landscape problems are water problems. Ground that slopes toward the house, downspouts that discharge against a foundation, and planting beds that trap water are the causes behind a large share of the drainage and foundation complaints in the San Gabriel Valley. Grading and drainage come before planting, always.
The detailsWhat decides whether it lasts.
Grade away from the structure
Positive drainage away from the foundation is the single most valuable thing a landscape build can get right, and the most expensive thing to fix later.
Clay soil changes the plan
Much of the San Gabriel Valley sits on expansive clay that swells and shrinks with moisture. It affects drainage design, planting choices and how borders and flatwork are detailed.
Irrigation zoning
Zones should be grouped by water need and sun exposure, not by which corner of the yard they happen to sit in. Mis zoned irrigation quietly wastes water and kills plants for years.

QuestionsLandscape Construction, answered.
Do you handle drainage problems?
Yes, and on most yard projects drainage is the first thing assessed, because everything installed on top of it depends on it.
Can you work on a sloped lot?
Yes. Sloped lots bring retaining, drainage and sometimes engineering into scope, which is worth identifying at the estimate rather than mid build.
Do I need a permit for a retaining wall?
Height is usually the trigger, measured from the bottom of the footing rather than from the visible ground. Walls above the threshold need a permit and often engineering. We confirm the trigger height for your city before we start.
